About

About Me: My name is Liz Wolodkiewicz. I am 27 years old, and I have been riding since I was 10 years old. It all started with a love of horses, which I had from a very young age. At 10, I finally convinced my parents to let me take lessons. Lessons turned into share boarding a horse, until I met Cloud my senior year of high school. Horses have shaped my life in a very unique way – when I was in high school I began volunteering at a local therapeutic riding stable, Main Stay Therapeutic Riding Program. It all started as a way to give back to the community, while being around the animals I love…but then I fell in love with individuals with special needs. I am now a speech and language pathologist working in the schools…and, wouldn’t you know, I’m also an instructor at Main Stay Therapeutic Riding Program. I like to keep busy…in addition to working in the schools and at Main Stay, I visit and ride Cloud 5-6 days a week, I run, I read, and I enjoy supporting some of my favorite sports teams – the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago White Sox.

About Cloud: Cloud is a 20 year old thoroughbred gelding. Cloud’s registered Jockey Club name is Cutalot. He was born April 13, 1992 at Southern Illinois University. His sire is Hatchet Man and his dam is Pushalot. Cloud spent his youth at the track, running short distances and making a respectable living. Cloud was a tough racer – he came off the track at 9 years old. At that time, he ended up in the hands of CANTER Illinois. CANTER did not have a place to keep Cloud, and fate brought him as a foster horse to the barn that I was riding at at the time. For me, it was love at first sight. I had always dreamed of owning a 16hh gray thoroughbred gelding, and he was the first one I had stumbled upon. I rode Cloud for a year while he was ‘fostered’, before convincing my parents to let me buy him. I bought Cloud on November 3, 2002. As my first horse, and my first non-lesson/non-trained horse, Cloud and I spent YEARS learning from one another. The education he has provided me has been priceless and extensive…everything from riding to nutrition to daily care to first aid care and more. We began our time together riding hunter/jumper, then dressage, and currently we are working on our natural horsemanship skills and natural dressage. Cloud has followed me to college and back, grad school and back, and now into the real world. He and I go everywhere together…when I moved, he moved, and thus he’s been with me for a lot of the ups and downs in my life. I often hear that Cloud and I have a special connection – from friends, barn mates, trainers, vets/farriers, random barn visitors, and judges. I’ve always felt it in my heart, but to hear others say it solidifies it for me. I appreciate the gift that I have been given in this big beautiful horse, and I strive to make his life as wonderful as he has made mine! Thanks for checking out our blog.
